Support Afghan Allies

On Friday, January 25, 2025, the Trump Administration issued an abrupt and sweeping freeze of funding for U.S. foreign assistance and stop work order, including critical assistance provided to refugees resettled to the United States across a number of programs, including but not limited to Welcome Corps and the U.S. Refugee Assistance Program (USRAP). Overnight and without notice the entire humanitarian infrastructure which supports newly arrived refugees in the U.S. was dismantled.

With government funding for resettlement programs frozen, Afghan allies arrive without the critical support they need for a strong start in America. Thousands of Americans have volunteered to fill the void and stand ready to welcome – but they need our support to do this work effectively and welcome families with the dignity and care they deserve after risking their lives to support U.S. troops during the 20-year war in Afghanistan.

That’s where the Afghan Allies Relocation and Welcoming Fund comes in.

Together, from the moment our team receives a referral, we thoughtfully triage each case’s needs, coordinate and deliver a supported welcome to the U.S. to connect our Afghan allies with their loved ones, networks of care, or recruited community sponsorship groups.  Your donation supports:

  • Coordinated Welcome: Our streamlined coordination ensures Afghan allies receive support at every step, from the moment a referral is received to lawful travel to the U.S. to ongoing support from their new neighbors.

  • Volunteer recruitment and sponsor training, where needed: Community members eager to welcome Afghan allies are prepared to provide direct assistance to arriving families.

  • Emergency response: Mobilizing more welcomers to help meet urgent needs and ensure Afghan allies receive life-saving support in their new communities.

Donations to Afghan Allies Relocation and Welcoming Fund support the work of Task Force Argo, AfghanEvac, Community Sponsorship Hub, Welcoming Initiative for Newcomers, and many implementing partners. Donations are processed by Community Sponsorship Hub, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and are tax deductible.
